Mafia II

Mafia II

When rising through the ranks of the mob, you have to take the good with the bad.

Born the son of a poor immigrant, Vito is a beaten down Italian American who is trying to secure his piece of the American Dream. Looking to escape the life of poverty that consumed his childhood, Vito is soon swayed by the lure of power and wealth that a life of Organized Crime can bring.

A petty criminal his whole life, Vito, along with his childhood friend, Joe, will descend into the world of Organized Crime. Together, they will work to prove themselves to the Mob as they try to make their names on the streets of a cold and unforgiving city.
Mafia 2 immerses players in the mob underworld of a fictitious late 1940's / early 1950's scenario. The game engages you in a cinematic Hollywood movie experience in a living, breathing city, fusing high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative.

Vito needs to find an alternate entrance to this meat packing plant.

There is a lot of details to look for in Empire Bay.

The cover system makes for some exciting shootouts.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

StarCraft II Wings of Liberty Review

Is Blizzard's latest also its greatest?

 Summary

StarCraft II continues the epic saga of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. These three distinct and powerful races clash once again in the fast-paced real-time strategy sequel to the legendary original, StarCraft. Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty's solo campaign will continue the epic saga where it left off in StarCraft: Brood War. The storyline chronicles the exploits of marshal-turned-rebel-leader Jim Raynor and features both familiar faces and new heroes. Players will be able to tailor the experience, choosing their own mission path and selecting technology and research upgrades to suit their playing style throughout the 29-mission campaign.
In addition to the solo campaign, dozens of multiplayer maps are available for competitive play through Battle.net. This improved version of the service has been built from the ground up to offer an unparalleled online play experience, with new features such as voice communication, character profiles and achievements, stat-tracking, ladders and leagues, cloud file storage, and more

In StarCraft II, it's still the Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss clashing against each other, and you're still mining minerals with SCVs, Drones, and Probes and pulling Vespene Gas from the ground to fuel production. It's a classic style of real-time strategy play, one old-school RTS gamers should be very familiar with. Compared to the changes Blizzard made between the traditional gameplay of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and the hero-based leveling elements of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, StarCraft II feels like a relatively safe play; a game designed to slide in and discreetly supplant its predecessor instead of ruffle the feathers of longtime StarCraft devotees and risk rejection. While it's not a revolutionary game, it is one of the most fully featured, expertly designed, and impressively refined real-time strategy experiences on the market.

Looks great on ultra if you've got the power to handle it, and will run on a wide variety of systems.

The slashes and booms of combat make battle more exciting, and an appropriately epic score backs up the action. Also the Hyperion jukebox is worth listening to.

Need for Speed: World

Need for Speed World Review

Needs some improvement.

NFSW is an online street-racer in the same vein of other games in the Need for Speed series. When it's not about racing, it's about avoiding the long, wheeled arm of the law. The game purports to be massively multiplayer and open world, and in some sense it is both of those. The world is indeed open, and as you drive through it you'll see a great many players, but that is where the ties to the MMO genre seem to end. The ability for you, the player, to interact with other players in this open world is minimal. You can talk to them, compare your stats, invite them to a match or a group, and that's about it. That would probably be enough under most circumstances, but NFSW is a racing game, and as such has no real cooperative mode, so grouping up becomes pretty much useless.

Ratings for Need for Speed World (PC)
Rating Description
out of 10
7.0 Presentation
Most of the UI is clean and clear, but lacks important information, such as how much rep until you level up, and how much boost (currency) you have.
7.5 Graphics
The cars look quite good. The city ranges from detailed and pretty to drab and dull.
7.5 Sound
Very little music to speak of. Radio chatter during pursuits is very interesting and occasionally even helpful.
6.0 Gameplay
The racing mechanics are simple and the cars handle fine, but modes are too few and powerups are a mixed bag.
5.5 Lasting Appeal
The free-to-play section is over too quickly, and the paid section drags on too long. All but the most hardcore racers will tire long before reaching level 20.
